  • Overview

    Inspect, test, sort, sample, or weigh raw materials or processed, machined, fabricated, or assembled parts or products for defects, wear, and deviations from specifications. May use precision instruments and complex test equipment.


    • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
    • Inspect, test, or measure materials, products, installations, or work for conformance to specifications.
    • Measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as FARO CMM, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
    • Read blueprints, CAD Models, data, manuals, or other materials to determine specifications, inspection and testing procedures, adjustment methods, certifications processes, formulas, or measuring instruments required.
    • Record inspection or test data, such as weights, temperatures, grades, or moisture content, and quantities inspected or graded.
    • Mark items with details such as grade or acceptance-rejection status.
    • Notify supervisors or other personnel of production problems.
    • Discard or reject products, materials, or equipment not meeting specifications.
    • Collect or select samples for testing or for use as models.
    • Assemble and hydrostatically pressure test products. Perform micrograph analysis on products.
    • Write test or inspection reports describing results, recommendations, or needed repairs.
    • Recommend necessary corrective actions, based on inspection results.
    • Clean, maintain, calibrate, or repair measuring instruments or test equipment, such as dial indicators, fixed gauges, or height gauges.
    • Remove or patch defects, such as chips, burrs, or lap corroded or pitted surfaces.
    • Read dials or meters to verify that equipment is functioning at specified levels.
    • Check arriving materials to ensure that they meet the specified inspection criteria, submitting discrepancy reports as necessary.
    • Conduct issued ISO audits.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.


    • High School diploma is required.
    • Associate’s degree in a related field, completion of a vocational or technical school program or equivalent amount of education and experience.
    • Three (3) to five (5) years of previous work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.


    • Knowledge required to perform this job include production and processing and mathematics. Ability to work with MS Excel, Access, and Word.
    • Skills required to perform this job include quality control analysis, active listening, critical thinking, monitoring, reading comprehension, speaking, coordination, judgment and decision making, and operation monitoring.
    • Abilities required to perform this job include oral comprehension, oral expression, near vision, flexibility of closure, problem sensitivity, written comprehension, deductive reasoning, category flexibility, inductive reasoning, information ordering, perceptual speed, selective attention, far vision, speech clarity, and speech recognition.

    • The physical requirements required to perform this job include moderate lifting/carrying of 20 – 50 pounds; overhead or above shoulder reaching; bending at the waist occasionally; pushing/pulling a maximum of 30 pounds un-wheeled; twisting torso at the waist; use of fingers and both hands; ability to grasp medium with right/left hands; ability to flex/extend right/left hands; ability to do repetitive work with hands; ability to exert medium arm/hand force with right/left hands; ability to wear gloves on right/left hands; ability to use tools with right/left hands; ability to write; maximum standing of one hour per day; maximum sitting of five hours per day; maximum walking of two hours per day; kneeling; squatting; climbing using arms and legs; moving neck forward/back and turning right/left; ability to work in a wide temperature range; ability to work in high humidity; ability to work inside/outside; ability to work with solvents or chemicals, such as casting coating and fuels; and the ability to work around moving machinery.


    • As necessary, must wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
